How our local radio club (USECA) helps the community, providing
emergency communications and much much more.......
-
USECA's
membership of 200 HAMs makes it one of the largest amateur radio
clubs in Michigan, a vast pool of talented amateurs supporting it.
-
Our
club's 2 meter repeater system provides wide coverage from
satellite receivers, in Warren, Mount Clemens, Romeo, Utica, and
Waterford, it helps us to cover Macomb, Oakland, St. Clair,
and Wayne Counties!
-
We have a back up system located at Mount
Clemens General Hospital. This system works completely independent
of the power mains, using emergency power available at the hospital.
It was an asset for the recent power blackout of 2003, we were the
first repeater back on the air, providing assistance!
-
Macomb County
Sky-Warn - Amateurs provide live weather reports during threatening
weather events, which are updated to the National Weather Service,
our repeater backs them up!
-
Emergency Siren
Compliance Testing Oakland County- Amateurs are dispatched to
emergency siren locations throughout Oakland County to verify proper
operation of the warning system.
-
Metro
Beach March of Dimes Walk America event Macomb County - Amateurs
provide the communications support for any emergency, also assisting
the walkers with directions, and re-uniting those who may become
lost.
-
Annual Field
Day Event - Amateurs practice for disaster by attending the
weekend long event in the last week of June....a contest designed to
practice for emergency events.
